ABOUT ECO VILLAGE OF HOPE

The Eco Village of Hope Society has been established to provide nurturing, health and education for children and to enhance the facilities where they live through the use of environmentally sustainable technologies and environmentally responsible practices.

The society’s projects, which include the Taishan Orphanage Project and the Nam On, Nurture Nanny Project, focus on the care of orphaned children in China. Renay Eng-Fisher, Society Board President, became aware of the conditions of orphanages in China when she visited Nam On to reclaim a family village house on behalf of her father, himself an orphan. Her personal connection to Nam On and her knowledge of orphaned life in China has moved her to improve the life of these babies. Together with the Chinese Social Welfare Bureau, the society recognizes the challenges presented when attempting to provide high quality care to millions of abandoned babies when finances and trained workers and volunteers are scarce.

Abandonment of children in China has reached critical proportions and is well documented. While we cannot hope to change the societal factors that have created this situation ~ they are beyond the scope of the society’s work ~ we have chosen to make an impact through training child care workers and creation of a loving, caring environment to better care for the children who are orphaned.
